I Can’t Recall My Parents Comforting Me a Single Time When I Was a Kid
They had no clue what to say when I was upset. Even worse … they never noticed.
Is it any wonder I grew up such a mess !!!
It’s not that my parents were bad people.
I suspect their lack of paying attention to me was due to their being two highly dysfunctional people. Utterly devoid of emotional intelligence.
I believe they loved me as best they could.
But it was expressed in such a limited way that it didn’t accomplish the most important goal of being a mom and dad.
Which was to help little Arty feel good about himself. To love himself just as he was, unconditionally, imperfections and all.
I’m happy to say 71-year-old Arty is making great progress on self-love. On recognizing what I have to offer to the world and appreciating and loving myself for all those special qualities I have.
It took a lot of work.
More on that later.
Moving on …
All kids get upset at times. It comes with the territory of growing up.
Kids get upset for a variety of reasons.
